I haven't seen this phone mnetioned around these parts - anyone got one?
I saw it in a phone shop a while ago and liked the size - and I've just seen it's out on Orange...... It's probably a choice between this or the 6100 -- Dnc |

It's a very funky little phone but it is very expensive for what it is (or rather isn't when you compare its features with the latest handsets). It's probably a choice between this or the 6100 Have you considered the T610? This trumps both phones - and it's cheaper! -- Simon C "A closed mouth gathers no foot" (Remove My Pants to reply by e-mail) |

The fact it's pretty small is the major interest for me. I was considering the S55 vs the 6100 until I saw the SL was available on orange. I haven't - mainly because I think it look ****e and I have no use for a camera phone (I have a digital camera for taking pics with) and I've got a T68 now, so there'd be little point in going to the T610 in my opinion, unless I'm missing something? -- Dnc |

Quite a few people have moved from a T68 to a T610, myself included. It works similarly but is a lot nicer as the screen is much better (apart from in really bright sunlight!) and it works much faster. In addition, the whole thing feels much more solid than the T68/i. Admittedly, if you don't want a camera on the phone then one of the main features of it is pretty useless. I don't really use it much, but it is fun for playing about with. |

Well the S55 still has some fetures the SL55 doesn't (bluetooth for example) and the only thing the SL55 has that the S55 doesn't is a 4,096 colour screen, and the dinky proportions of course. Have you considered the T610? This trumps both phones - and it's cheaper! Well the T610 is a lot better than the T68 in many ways besides the built-in cam (which is little more than a novelty really). The screen is lightyears ahead (65k colours over 256 makes a lot of difference), excellent ringtones (yes they are polyphonic but they are actually good and can play up to 32 note midi files), java and mophun support, better bluetooth support, drastically improved SMS. All those extras and still the same size as the T68 - I have upgraded from a T68 to the T610 and haven't looked back. I suggest you look at one in the flesh - I haven't seen a picture that does it justice yet - the aluminium finish just oozes style! Just because it has a built-in cam doesn't mean you have to use it. And at the price the T610 is on Orange it is an absolute steal. T610 plug over ![]() -- Simon C "A closed mouth gathers no foot" (Remove My Pants to reply by e-mail) |

Indeed - but it's by no means huge either. I just wish I knew people with these ohones to have a play with. As for bluetooth, well apart from being able to use an ugly wire free headset, I've found it no interest at all. Have you considered the T610? This trumps both phones - and it's cheaper! As for bluetooth, well apart from being able to use an ugly wire free headset, I've found it no interest at all. Well with bluetooth dongles now available for about £25 the benefits of bluetooth connectivity with a PC are much more affordable. I also use bluetooth for connecting to my PDA and my 'ugly wire free headset' (Jabra BT200 - don't think it's too bad tbh - and I have it mainly for the practicality in the car, not looks). But if you are living quite happily without bluetooth then obviously you can carry on living happily without it! Once you have it and start using it though the benefits soon become clear - no mucking about with line of site IR and all that stuff. So do I take it you'd recomment the T610 then? grin Lol - well all I can say is that I'm very happy with it and so are the two other friends I persuaded to get it too (one other on Orange, the other on T-Mob). -- Simon C "A closed mouth gathers no foot" (Remove My Pants to reply be e-mail) |

My wife got a p800 when there was an offer on (free on O2 Max from CPW) which she (last friday) decided was too overcomplicated for her needs: due to the rave reviews on this group I agreed to get her a T610 on my o2 online contract (only £50, a steal, if you ask me) and we'd swap (heh, lucky me). Anyway, the phone arrived last night (wow, fast service from o2 online, what's going on? they even got the right colour!) and we both fell in love with it. It's smaller than you expect, the poly ringtones are -loud-, it's really nice to look at and well put together. No hiss to be found on this one, I guess they've sorted the problem out on recent versions? Obviously that's only initial impressions from playing for a couple of hours but it really is as good as everyone's saying. Little touch that impressed me: when you first go into the contact screen, it asks you if you want to transfer all your contacts from your SIM card. The camera seems better than the one on the p800, too. Slight downsides: the battery doesn't clip in - the back cover holds it in place. Seems like a recipe for disaster? Only time will tell. Will post more impressions after more use ![]() Geoff |
