Default Mobile Call Costs

You would think mobile call costs would be getting cheaper but no, they appear
to be getting more expensive, a complete reversal.

The only company that still seem to be offering peak and off peak calls is O2.
Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile have put the calling costs up by getting rid of
off peak calling.

Also I heard from a friend today who seems to be getting screwed by T-mobile
that he has to pay connection charges for his inclusive minutes, he is on the
Everyone 400 tariff. Also you have to pay a deposit to take your phone to roam
abroad.

Heh. Generally it does seem that way.

O2.

Yeah, I'd noticed. It's called "simplication" in Orange World :-)

Orange PAYG still has the "Choose your own off peak" tariff, although
they've done the dirty on those of us who were on the £50 topup rate by
doing away with the half price o/p calls and texts :-(

What are you talking about? All of the networks have off-peak calling
tariffs.

Only if you're not very credit-worthy.

snip

Voda don't, not for new customers since they ringfenced Allcalls,
and neither do T Mobile who now only have Everyone,
but you can still get O2 Original which does.

Of course Orange still have "choose your own off-peak"

Steve10578 reckoned that:
Well, most of the Orange Your Plans
Are 10p peak and off peak same with T-Mobile. and some lower priced Vodafone
Traiffs are 15p.

I see what you mean - you were referring to the actual call costs per
minute, rather than the general nature of the tariff.

I remember when off peak used to be 5p on most networks, I myself think the
price plans are getting more expensive.

Off-peak price plans will go up steadily sadly, they are not good for
business it seems.

As I said I'm only going by what he told me, I don't have a contract with
T-Mobile but he contacted T-Mobile and they said there is a connection charge.

No network has connection fees of any sort, and haven't done so for as long
as I can remember, except ED50 which ceased to be available some 10 months
ago. Perhaps your buddy had to pay a security deposit? This is not a
connection charge and will be refunded in full after 1 year of satisfactory
account conduct.

As a previous poster posted perhaps it's because he not long got his mobile
before he went abroad.

It's quite possible.
