My wife's company car has a cradle for her Nokia phone which allows her to
speak hands-free and hear via the car sound system - the phone "takes over"
the system during calls. As far as I can see, this has been custom wired to
an Aux in somwhere deep in the system's innards.

Does anyone know if there is a link cable available which would allow her to
play her MP3 player through this cradle's docking plug i.e. 3.5mm jack to
Nokia (female) socket?

Possibly. What car and what radio is it? A friend of mine has been trying
to hack something up for his 1998ish Renault, which uses a Philips radio.
The Philips uses the I2S bus to talk to CD changers, and he's trying to hack
an external input into it and make it pretend to be a CD changer. It's
progressing slowly.

Quite possibly someone else sells a similar kit for your radio? I'd Google
the radio model number rather than the car, as that's what you have to
convince to take the signal.

Nokia external adaptors tend to use the FBUS or MBUS (or USB?) to indicate
things like phone ringing, or to identify themselves to the phone. So it
might be a bit tricky to use the Nokia cable.

.... use an FM transmitter. They are about 5 or 6 quid.
