Default contract for daughter

Looking at contract options for my daughter.

We have a few handsets arround so a sim only would be accepted.

Problem is, dad will end up paying the bill.

I am wondering if any of the providers will allow the inclusive texts
and minutes but not allow any chargeable calls?

I have found an offer on the vodaphone site for 1000 monthly texts and,
I think, 150 minutes, for £15 a month. As far as I can gather, most
of her activities are texting.

Hard to think that she could use all those texts but I would rather not
have a huge unexpected bill.

I suppose payg would be the safe way but I am told the price per text is
much higher than on contract.

Keith Barrett was unable to spell:
vodaphone

Pray tell how you got to the site if you can't even spell their name
correctly?

T-Mobile have (or maybe had U-Fix) [their site is down right now, so I can't
tell if its still available].

Basically once you get to the end of your inclusive stuff then you have to
top-up before you can get more minutes/text

T-Mobile Fix-it used to. Not sure if it is still available, but that's
your best bet if it is.

Contract text bundles are cheaper, but only if you use enough of the bundle.

PAYG texts are around 6p each, though you can get PAYG bundles to make
them cheaper.

At 6p she'd need to send about 8 every day to get through £15 worth of
credit. Lots of teenagers do, of course, but is it necessary? They're a
very expensive way to chat.

In ,
Keith Barrett typed, for some strange,
unexplained reason:

Give her a PAYG SIM and let her pay her own bills. That way she'll learn
that phones cost money and will end up being more responsible in her usage
rather than just letting dad pay the bills.

My daughter2 has Orange payg and when you top up with a tenner a month she
gets 300 'free' texts.
If you put on a twenty, you get more - can't remember how many

This NOT available to new customers, but if you could find an old sim card
........

?

That isn't a contract! At least, that's what the woman in my local Virgin
mobile shop told me last week when I asked about my daughter's phone bill.

With her new phone, in April, she got a voucher fror 1000 free texts, which
were given out at 250/month for four months. Over that, cross-network
texts are 12p. Now that the voucher has run out, she faces a typical bill
above GBP30/month for texts alone.

She can't have the above contract, though, because she's 18. I could take
it out for her, but that's hardly empowerment or upbringing, is it?

O2 deal at `top up GBP10/15/30 a month, get 300/500/unlimited free texts'
looks like a good bet, and, thankfully, looks as if I need spend precious
little time interacting with the zombie staff in my local O2 shop.
