Default Installing ActiveSync

Hi all

After a recent disaster of losing all my contacts with no back up
because I could never get ActiveSync to install, I thought I'd give it
another try.

Surprise surprise, it /still/ wont install. it gets to 66% and bombs
out if run from the auto-play disk that came with the phone, if I go
to the directory (or download a new version from M$) and try to run
the install from there it wont even start, I get:

'The wizard was interrupted before Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 could be
completely installed.

Your system has not modified. To complete the installation at another
time, please run setup again.'

I've tried a few different registry scanners incase the problem was
there, I've tried installing from safe mode, all to no avail.

Any idea on how to get this software to install? Are there any
different versions that DO work?

I'm running WinXP pro SP2, the phone is an HTC Touch, but as I've
never manages to connect the two, the phone make and model doesn't
matter LOL

Something is clearly blovking it. Turn off antivirus stuff etc and have
another go.

I've tried from safe mode with nothing running, same thing there.

There is something deeply wrong with your PC then.

I'm more inclined to think it's m$ checking for competitors software
or something, I've tried on two different desktop machines and a
laptop, all with the same (lack of) result :^ They can't all be
broken, and in exactly the same way, it must be something else.

Go to Control panel network internet connections network connections
right click on the connections and choose disable (enable later)
Ctl+Alt+Del and Close as many programs as possible
Click Start Run enter FixMapi Click Ok ... try setup again.

If that dosn't work ...
Download Windows Installer 3.1 from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en,
install try setup again (it may refuse to install if you already have
newer version).

If that dosn't work ...
If you have MS Office Outlook installed ...
Uninstall it and re-install

If that dosn't work ...
Install older version of ActiveSync (v4.2) then the latest over the top

If that dosn't work ... there's this
