You need to "dial" from the browser, which is supposed to start
up a Skype call to the Skype name they've picked for the call,
so it may depend on the browser-Skype app interaction working.
Rebtel's call rates are also generally better than Skype Out.

But to use Rebtel you have to set up a local no. which on Three's
tariff (with an S2 etc.) is 20p a minute for the connection to start
off with. Then you are charged for whatever Rebtel charges for a
landline or mobile connection.

It would be easier if you'd taken note of what I wrote, though
maybe you can look he

You don't have to call through a local number to use Rebtel,
you can also call from your Skype client with Rebtel doing
the gatewaying to their service. *As the Skype client in
the latter case thinks it is doing a Skype-to-Skype call the
call doesn't cost anything and should connect you no matter
where you are ultimately trying to call. *Rebtel's rates are
also somewhat more reasonable than Skype Out.

But rebtel is still 11p per min to call UK mobiles, you'd be better
off with an ASDA or giffgaff sim for other than 3 to 3 calls

So the big question - and I asked on the giffgaff support forum - but
got no reply (that I could find anyway) - and no-one emailed me - is:
will the giffgaff SIM work in a 2G mobile phone (one that does not
connect to the Internet). Or is giffgaff 3G only? CJB.

It did get answered - think you must have just missed the reply!

But in short, giffgaff works just fine in a 2G phone - no restrictions on that
like 3.

As long as the phone is unlocked, as Fresh Mobile are on T Mobile,
and Giff Gaff are on O2.

As CPW normally supply unlocked GSM stock phones,
it's likely to be unlocked

If you like I can arrange for a SIM to be sent to you using their friends &
family promotion. This will give you a bonus £5 credit when you activate the
SIM with an initial £10 (and I get 500 payback points too). Wing me a private
message on the giffgaff forum if you like (my username is simon69c there).

It appears to open your PCs Skype application, i can't see
how you can use it to open your 3 Skype?

Also on Rebtel UK mobile calls are 11p per min, might
as well use an Asda / giffgaff, etc. sim

If you buy some Skype PAYG credit you can call Europe
and the US for 1.4p per min, but not UK numbers
as the 3 Skype phone app will only allow international calls.
(UK mobile would cost 16.6p per min anyway)

So what's needed is a cheap callthrough to the UK with an
European or US access number.
Preferably not US because of the added delay to the US
and back

Any ideas?

Precisely:

"So what's needed is a cheap call through to the UK with an European

As far as I know, Skype will work on anything as long as you have
internet connection. Not sure about the limitations from providers but
I use Skype on WiFi connections. My Windows Mobile phone has a WiFi
and I have Skype installed there and it works everytime. I also use
another VoIP service from Onesuite using the same WiFI connection and
it works all the time too.
