Ok - but if you're using Three then you have a flat rate charge of 20p
for a local or UK mobile call, then the 18185 charge on top of that.
Other mobiles might be more expensive - I doubt whether they're
cheaper. So why would anyone want to use 18185 or 1899 or am I missing
something. CJB

Texts are sent from the website, not a phone, as Theo said already

1899 and other calling cards like them have 0800 and geo number access.

So if you use 1899 with say a GiffGaff sim with free 0800, or a contract
with inclusive landlines, you can make calls through them from as little a
1p
SMS are sent from their website

another form of calling card is through VOIP like
http://www.smartvoip.com/en/
which as well as internet access has landline access numbers like
020 8180 1234

Which as well as cheap or even free international, will give you calls
to UK mobiles for 5p per min

they don't change them every five minutes

they've been at this level for a year or two (maybe three?)

the free sms offers from Betamax VoIP brands disappeared around the
same sort of time

take a look at Fishtext, which is the cheapest at the moment amongst a
few alternatives
