Start up S2 and Skype and login. Go to Contacts - all Skype contacts
will be listed - Skype ones and those linked to landline nos. &/or mobiles. However usually it is only possible to send a Skype 'chat' to Skype contacts, not to any linked to mobiles. However there's an easy work around to achieve this. 1/ On a PC / Laptop start up Skype and login. Then set up a contact to a mobile no. e.g. +44.... or +31 .... etc. The using Skype send that mobile contact a single SMS message. 2/ On the S2 start up Skype and go to Chats. If Skype has synchronised properly the SMS message should be displayed. It is then easy enough to add another chat message to it and send that. The recipient should receive the new message on their mobile phone rather than as a Skype chat. This is useful to send cheap international SMS texts to overseas mobiles - bypassing Three's exorbitant charges, and only Skype Credit is charged. Also it is useful for sending SMS messages to +44 mobiles when Three's PAYG 'free stuff' has expired. CJB. |

There are also Java SMS apps available, but you have to buy separate credit for them. I wonder if this will work when roaming? Or if it's cost a fortune in roaming data? Theo |

I would be wanting to pay about half that. It's a nice hack though. Can't argue with that. -- Graham. %Profound_observation% |

Theo It should work with roaming so long as the S2 connects to Skype for free in other countries. Otherwise there would be a 'double charge - S2 to Skype, then Skype sending SMS to mobile. CJB. |

CJB. It's difficult for a callthrough to offer access to their switch through a Skype name, unless they go for a call-back system. What would be easier for 3Pay users is to have a callthrough with a Three access number, but three charge a lot for connection I can see a solution for dodgy callthroughs, that is for them to play the Scottish bankruptcy game. In the late 1990's dodgy ISPs set themselves up registered in Scotland offering very cheap ISP access on 0800 numbers, knowing they couldn't possibly make a profit to pay their telecom bills. After dragging out their losses for about a year they would declare bankruptcy, which under Scottish law is very liberal. Disappearing with what money they made from their cheap subscriptions Not that i'm advocating any callthrough do that, i'm just surprised none have Steve Terry -- Get a free Three 3pay Sim with £2 bonus after £10 top up http://freeagent.three.co.uk/stand/view/id/5276 |
