One of my family has a payg mobile with FRESH, I think a Crapfone
Warehouse brand using T Mobile network. At least the phone was
unbranded and enjoys original Samsung firmware, a real plus.

Anyway, got a text today saying Fresh will cease on 19 March, offering a
£5 credit with another provider - Talksomething.

In this case we will port to Voda as it has a better signal round where
we mostly travel.

I mention this for the (probably very) small army of Fresh customers who
might not get the text and who want to make new arrangements in the next
4 weeks.

Unless anything's changed recently, you can only port to Vodafone *AT*
the time you buy a new handset from them (or a reseller).

I ported a PAYG TO vodafone contract last October without a problem. I
also ported the same number to giffgaff (really O2) a few weeks ago
without problem. I also ported a 3 PAYG to VF last July to kill the
contract, again without problem.

The VF PAYG rates are a bit high... if you want to go to the VF network
then port it to ASDA. I did that with my wife's virgin payg in Oct 2008
& it all went fine.

Currently giffgaff are 8p/min, 4p/text plus free data until May. They
are really a brand of O2. See giffgaff.com.

Thanks for the thought.

In the past I have had no trouble porting at the time of buying a new
Voda SIM card, which is what we will do. The phone is already unlocked
(came that way). Just need to get on with it - who knows how or if you
will be able to get a PAC from Fresh once they have ceased. If we can't
keep the numbers it is no great disaster but more convenient if we can.

Did seem generally difficult to port to Voda when I tried, perhaps
mainly CPW and their online arms.

Looks like the new one (talkmobile) is partnered with vodafone

That's interesting. If you click on 'coverage map help' it leaps to a
demo page with Newbury at the centre, which sort of confirms it. Might
go with them after all.

Can't just be you, I've seen plenty of complaints in here about it.

Even more bluntly, with firefox on Linux, it states "unfortunately the
Vodafone Coverage Viewer application is not fully compatible with your
web browser or platform".
