Greetings, I'm looking around for my first smartphone, and have been looking
at the above model - seems good, but I hear that Vodaphone have dropped it.

Is there a problem with it?

Any views on it from experience?

Thanks

It runs Windows Mobile.

And why is that a problem?

It isn't!!! Except if you want 100s of "apps" from an "appstore" like the
iPhone and its clones. Many serious business phones are WM based as they
do things like synchronise from an Outlook server natively.

There ARE addons for WM-based phones - just not as neatly packaged!

Thanks - the problem with first time with any new equipment is that you
don't know what you might want to do beyond your initial reasons, until you
see what's available. At this stage I want a phone with big screen,
internet, email, Google, facebook, GPS/satnav useage (possibly with
Copilot). But on what you say I'll have a look through what apps might
become must-haves.

I reckon you might still be able to get hold of one on Voda here -

I suppose it depends what the OP wants - a portable computer than can
make phone calls, or a phone you can browse the web on.

Many serious business phones are WM based as they do things like
synchronise from an Outlook server natively.

My positively antediluvian [2006] Nokia E61 does Activesync natively, and
not a version of Windows in sight. I imagine contemporary smartphones
without Activesync support are thin on the ground nowadays.

My HTC Touch 3G (WM6 based) does WiFi, email synchronisation to several
ISPs (including Outlook) and it can (with add-ons) now do TomTom navigator
(using its built-in GPS) and display Memory Map Pocket OS maps.

The point I was making is that expecting any WM based phone to have the range
of and ease or installation of iPhone "apps" would be a mistake - but not
everyone wants or needs this!

Probably because of the imminent arrival (not quite sure how imminent) of
the Windows 7 phone

And there was I always thinking a telephone mobile or otherwise was
for talking to other people with who have a similar contraption and a
PC was for all the other nonsence you mention .

Hi James - I used to agree with you - but a lifestyle change means I want
those facilities on the run. I don't want to have a phone AND a handheld
computer or laptop, and my PC is a bit bulky for fitting into my pocket (or
carrying on my shoulder, ghetto blaster style!!)
