Default O2 Simplicity contract data charges on PAYG basis

I tried getting the answer to this question via the O2 web site (couldn't
find it), O2 on-line chat to an advisor, who didn't know the answer, and
by calling O2. The latter gave me the answer that even the smallest
amount of data would cost the full £1. That doesn't seem right to me.

If you used a small amount of data, on the O2 simplicity tariff, where
you are not subscribing to a data Bolt-on, how much is the per kB or per
MB charge? It is supposed to be a MAXIMUM of £1/day but how much does it
cost leading up to that?
Also, can you check data usage on-line on an on-going basis?

Thanks for that. Some of the O2 tariffs just now are very good but that
just negates any advantage. At that rate it would be easy to eat up £1
with just one bulky web page. So, if using it daily, that could add £30
to a monthly bill.
The bolt-on is £7.50, if you've already got an inclusive bolt-on, -
overpriced I think. Also, I see that O2 don't like streaming audio or
video. So, good on the text and talk but crap on the data.
Not for me then!

I have felt that more often than not the o2 simplicity tariffs do not
compete with pay and go in many areas.

As mentioned on another thread, but not mentioned often, o2 do a pay
and go tariff called 'text and web', in which you get 300 texts and
unlimited (500Mb fair use) web access, good for train journeys, for
£10 a month, with the £10 credited to your account for you to spend
otherwise.

If you generally use a work mobile for personal calls, or don't call
so much, it works out great. For myself, I was planning to move to
another network's call and text tariff until I seen this one. With
500Mb you could even use, for example, Skype official software on
Symbian, Fring or wahtever to make calls over EDGE/3G, and it would
work out quite cheap.

You'd have to talk for quite a long time to use up 500Mb fair-use,
although fair-use means you can go over it now and again without
pentalty.
