Default Suspend Orange contract?

Anyone know if it's currently possible to suspend a contract on Orange?

Having signed up to Vodafone with lots of minutes, my OVP-Virgin/ED50
line1/2 combo isn't being used as much as it once was (the 40p/min x-net
being the killer), but I'd rather not cancel it just yet, especially as
I won't be able to reinstate it if I do.

So, is it possible to suspend it for 12 months or so?

Copy and pasted from the help section accessed by logging into 'Your
Account' online. Found on 'Help & Support' tab then 'change account
details'. :

If you're travelling or working away for a long period of time and
don't need to use your phone for a while, we can temporarily suspend
your contract for up to 6 months for you, this means that after the
agreed suspension period, your contract will continue to run for the
remaining period it had left at the point of suspension.

Just call us on 150 from your Orange phone or 07973 100 150 from any
other phone to arrange and ensure you don't have any un-paid bills.

How about just cancelling the Line 2 ED50, keeping the Virgin
equivalent tariff, then if you want more use in future take out a
separate SIM only contract?

I could do, but it's the 50 mins a day to Orange or a land line for £9
or so quid a month that's useful. I'd quite happily bin the OVP-Virgin
on line one and keep ED50, but I don't think that can be done and I'd
not get the line 2 discount if I did

Well, that'd be a saving wouldn't it. ;-)

I recently dumped my old O2 'Genie' contract, which offered 50 minutes
of off-peak calls to O2 and landline numbers and 'free' SMS and
dial-up WAP for a tenner a month.

I switched to a recent T-Mobile PAYG offering of 'free' SMS and GPRS
Internet for a tenner a month top-up. Perfect for me because I now
get GPRS Internet and T-Mobile offers the best reception in the areas
I spend most of my time.

Obviously I lose up to 1,550 minutes of call time a month, but I
noticed that I rarely used any of them.

You might be better off dumping the whole thing and seeing what's
around in twelve moths.

At the moment, for example, e2save is offering a free phone with up to
600 cross-network minutes and unlimited SMS for less than a tenner a
month with cashback:
http://www.e2save.com/mobile-phone/contract/alcatel+/Alcatel---OT_708&utm_medium=Banner&utm_campaign=Banner3.

Who knows what'll be around in 12 months, but these cashback deals
have been around for as long as I can remember.

ED50 used to be a good deal, but it's showing its age now.

Cheapest phone from e2save is currently the nokia 1661

and 60quid cashback from quidco for e2save contracts

Can't see the sense in dumping the OVP-VM as it doesn't cost!

I have an OVP VM SIM. I've only used it about half a dozen times
during the past six years... to leave free voicemail for other Orange
customers.

If the original poster was to dump ED50 and get a new (Orange)
contract in twelve months offering oodles of inclusive minutes I can't
really see any point in holding on to the OVP VM account.

I know, I know... it's free and it's difficult to let go. I still
have my SIM in a drawer somewhere gathering dust.

But with Asda Mobile, for example, offering cross-network calls for
8p/min, OVP VM doesn't look like such a great deal.
