A guy I used to work with, and who is used to Microsoft Exchange Active Sync on his mobile is now working on his own and using GMail. What options are there, if any for the non e-mail access he got on Active Sync such as Calendar and Contacts sync? Look for a phone that supports SyncML Data Sync (http:// en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SyncML) either out of the box (any Symbian OS phone from Nokia or Sony Ericsson), or with an additional app then pick up an account at somewhere like Mobical (www.mobical.net), or use the Google Contacts and Calendar (which I believe support SyncML). Or go for an Android phone whioch has built in support for sync with Google Mail, Contacts and Calendar |

"JL" wrote in message ... Is there anyway to use this 'fake' exchange on a PC? I've tried using m.google.com as an Exchange server in Outlook but it doesn't work. Does on the phone though - very handy and didn't know I could do this! Are there any other mail programs other than Outlook that I could get it to work with? I wouldn't expect it to work. Prior to Exchange 2010 the Outlook Web Access server has three separate web sites, one for traditional web access, a very cut down version for use in web browsers on small foot print devices (Outlook Mobile Access) and one for "Active Sync". I expect that all Google does is emulate the last one for Active Sync. site.... Oh and there isn't a web site for full outlook web access, that's just MAPI tunneled in HTTPS and its passed straight through to the server via the RPC over HTTP service that runs outside the web browser. Apparently Microsoft document the Active Sync so third parties can interface their phones to it, but I don't think MAPI is documented any where... although there are third party servers that talk MAPI... Best option for Outlook is IMAP.. -- JL "Brian Gregory [UK]" wrote in message ... "Dave Wade" wrote in message ... You just tell your phone to use m.google.com as your Exchange Server then you can sync most things with Google. Search for "Google Sync" in Google. -- Brian Gregory.
