Ill be in the USA for 3 months and have a Virgin USA phone and USA number
that has unlimted calling, however they charge me 20 cents a minute to call
the UK (international) is there any service i can get thats gonna allow me
to call the UK from my Virgin phone but via a US number while im out there
that will charge me less than 20 cents a minute or is free ?

If not, is there any service VOIP or other thats gonna allow me to call the
UK everyday for about 30 mins a day ?

An UK Skype user can set up a (or several) ring2skype number in many
countries, they offer about a dozen different area codes for the USA
No cost involved for the USA caller if they can call that US area code for
free

I have a Manhattan NY (646) one pointing to the Skype name of my
UK Three mobile phone which includes free Skype.

So it costs nothing extra for a US caller who can call 646 area code
out of their inclusive calls to call my Three Skype mobile phone.

sipgate.com will give you a free US VoIP number.
I did manage to sign up for one from the UK last year, but it was not easy,
that shouldn't be a problem for you if you sign up over there..
Then use the account to configure a SIP phone on this side of the pond.

I don't know of any free way to do it. Google Voice will sell you the
service (and give you free calls to Canada if you need to do that) and
give you fancy voicemail to play with. localphone.com does that and
has quite good rates. rebtel.com does it with not-quite-so-good
rates, but also lets select UK callers call you via UK landline
numbers.

You could also buy a Skype subscription and call UK landlines at
a flat rate, though mobiles aren't included and their rates to
those aren't pleasant.

Ok after reading all the posts(thanks for all the suggestions) and looking
into the costs plus bearing in mind im not a HUGE fan of internet calls,
just because of the delay, echoes etc, heres what im thinking of doing:

Its my girlfriend im wanting to call from the USA.

She is going to sign up for a ring2skype number (free of chrage) she is also
going to take out a subscription with Skype (£3.99 a month) She can then
forward all her incoming Skyp calls (she has an iphone app for skype) to the
home phone, i believe she can also set it up so her iphone will ring through
skype AND it will forward to the home phone so she can answer wherever she
is. Would this work ? the long and the short of it is its going to cost us
£3.99 a month and we can talk from my cell to either her iphone or landline
for free.
