Orange and T-Mobile network merger by
Michael Chare
Will Orange and T-Mobile merge their networks, so that all mast carry both
networks? If so does anyone know when. Ideally I would like my Virgin sim to
be able to connect to the local Orange mast which has a strong signal.

Media player design flaw by
Zaz
Anyone familiar with this situation:
You're at the gym listening to on your mobile phone through your
earphones. As your running the earphone jack comes out. What you want to
happen is that your phone pauses the music until you can plug your
earphones back in. But the phone designers thought it would be a better
idea start playing your music on the phone loudspeaker!
If that wasn't bad...

Recording *beep* phone calls *beep* by
Rad
I want my phone to be able to record phone calls without the other person
knowing. When I had my Nokia N70 I installed something called Ultimate
Voice Recorder which worked fine.
I've just installed it on my E72 and every 2 seconds I can hear a quiet
beep in the background which the other person can hear as well! Looking
at alternative software it seems that a feature that comes with some...

HTC Hero on Orange gets Eclair 2.1 update by
Nick Le Lievre
I have a HTC Hero Orange branded but unlocked to all networks and have
been waiting patiently for the Android 2.1 Eclair update as it comes
with Android 1.5 Cupcake as standard.
Well early this morning they finally released part 2 of the OTA update
which is 2.1 Android Eclair and I have successfully updated the phone to
this new version (which comes as standard on the latest HTC Android...

Mobiles for VOIP by
Theo Markettos
I'm wondering about buying a mobile principally for use as a VOIP client
over wifi. It's to be bought and used in Sudan, where there's not much
selection of non-mobile VOIP phones (and offers like Three Skype don't
exist).
Due to various double NAT headaches (see my thread on uk.telecom.voip) it
looks like Skype or IAX are the most robust protocols, but I'd like to keep
my options open to use...

Compliment re T-Mobile renewal: monthly discount! by
Allan
I have a T-Mobile G1 on an 18-month contract with flext (calls, texts,
internet). I'm happy with it.
The 18-month anniversary/renewal came up last month.
On the website renewal bit in My T-Mobile, T-Mobile offered me a phone
upgrade or a 20% discount on monthly fee if I renewed for 18 months.
Took the monthly discount offer and the webpage confirmation said "Your
£6 discount will be applied to...

IMEI Blocked? by
JL[_2_]
Purchased an old Nokia on eBay a few weeks ago and been using it with
a Vodafone SIM with no problems. When I insert an Orange SIM I get
signal for a few seconds and then it disappears. Selecting 'Orange' on
a manual network search gives a 'No Access' message.
Thought there was something funny happening with Orange but I've since
tested all networks and am thinking the handset has possibly...

Android or Windows Mobile? by
Dave Scott[_2_]
I am looking for a new smartphone, having sed WM2003, WM5 and WM6.5 on my
previous phones, I now see the mention of Android phones. Is it likely that
Windows Mobile phones will be a thing of the past soon? Is Android taking
the lead in popularity, and which is the best O/S to have? Are there plenty
of free apps for Android?

What do T-Mobile do if you use your phone as a modem? by
Tim Downie[_3_]
I'm not talking about going over my allowance, just using it within my
allowance. The terms and conditions are pretty clear about it not being
permissable but I'd like to link up my ipod touch occasionally to the net
and it seems the easiest way to do it. I'm on a pay-monthly deal with
"unlimited" internet (i.e. 1GB per...

Listening to Radio 4 via Wifi on Nokia Symbian phones by
Michael Chare
I used to be able to listen to radio 4 using realplayer in my Nokia E66 and
a Wifi connection.
In May the unhelpful BBC discontinued this facility.
The BBC say that the iplayer will run in a E71 which is a similar phone
http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/mobile/mobile_phone though if the
web site is to be believed I need a TV licence just to listen to the radio.
However my attempts...

T-Mobile G1 picking up other networks in area of no T-Mobile reception by
Allan
I have a T-Mobile G1; when I press a key to get the screen back on,
there's a little box which tells me the date/time, and the network it's
connected to (in the UK always T-Mobile: abroad when roaming, the
relevant network). I was out walking today in an area (UK!) that I
often go to where there is no T-Mobile reception. Usually, it just
shows "no service". However, today, it was picking...

Voice calls from USB dongle? by
Theo Markettos
Are there any USB dongles that are capable of making GSM calls?
The reason I ask is I was recently using a Huawei B220 router. This looks
like it's a wireless router with an E220 USB dongle built into it... there's
a USB port you can use to plug it into a PC and if you do it appears just
like an E220 (even the E220 unlock method works). But the router also has a
phone socket on the back, which...

Netbook or Smatphone, which one to buy? by
divoch
For my travels abroad I would like to have my own means of connecting to
Internet and Mail using Wi-Fi.
I am considering to buy a netbook but I wonder if spending on a decent
mobile would be a more cost effective and more portable as I would have with
me only one and smaller device. However, one thing I am not sure is whether
these smartpohes can, in effect, do all that a netbook can do as...

What is "tethering"? by
Chris Blunt[_2_]
I've been connecting my laptop to the internet via mobile phones for
at least the last 10 years now, but I've noticed the use of the word
"tethering" being used recently to describe doing something like this.
I may be missing something here, but is this just a fashionable new
use of the word to describe what I've already been doing, or is there
something more to it?
To me, tethering is something...
