Orange/EE roaming problem by S Viemeister[_2_]
I thought it was just me, but it seems to be a problem elsewhere, too...I'm in the US at the moment, and my Orange phone can't connect. At all. No calls, no texts, no data. Good thing I also have a US mobile.

Data heavy PAYG by Roland Perry
I'm helping someone newly arrived in the country select a SIM, but the industry's confusion pricing isn't helping. They already have an unlocked iPhone, and have a preference (which I could shift) for EE based on that being the network which their foreign SIM currently most often roams to. They strongly dislike the prospect of any credit they have expiring at the end of the month.

Wanted, cheap phone supporting EAP-SIM and external aerial by Chris Green
As per the subject I want a phone which supports the EAP-SIM WiFi authentication protocol and which is easy to connect an external aerial to. Apart from these requirements it can be very basic indeed. .... or a MiFi/router that supports EAP-SIM but I don't think there is such a thing. -- Chris Green ·

Is there any 'ready made' way to use EAP-SIM authenticated WiFi without a 'phone? by Chris Green
I'm looking for a way to use an EAP-SIM authenticated WiFi hotspot with some sort of external aerial so that I can get better range than I would get just using my Android mobile 'as is'. So, as I see it, there are a couple of ways of doing this:- Improve the phone's internal WiFi aerial. Does anyone know of any Android phones whose WiFi aerial can be got at?

Web site for local mobile phone masts/aerials? by Dr J R Stockton
I'd like a recommendation for Web sites that show on a map the locations of mobile phone masts/aerials that serve, or might serve, a given location, or something like that? A Google search for mobile mast "Binbrook" finds a number of individual pages such as Mobile Phone Mast 10979 - BINBROOK AIRFIELD but I'd prefer to find all those in a service region, something...

Cheapest deal for 4G data by Vic[_2_]
I'm in a location where landline broaband is impossible (0.5Mb/s) but I can get a reasonable signal with a 4G router and high gain aerial. I use about 100GB per month. The best deal I can find is EE, who have a 32GB data SIM plan and I can put 2 SIMs in the router, thus giving me 64GB per month. This comes in at 56 pen month, but I still run out of data before the end of the month. Is there...

Still trying to use mobile data when turned off? by Tony Mountifield[_2_]
I recently went on holiday from the UK to mainland Europe, and took my Samsung Galaxy S4 running Android 5.0.1 on the EE network. Before I went, I turned off Roaming Data, and also turned off Mobile Data completely. As I entered each country (France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany), I still received texts from EE saying "From EE: Your device is trying to connect to the internet. To get online...

S2 Skyephone no longer connects to Skype!!! by CJB[_2_]
I've heard that Skype &./or Three have fallen out and terminated the S2 Skyephone service? Also that this is against the their own terms and conditions. Certainly I can't get my S2 to connect to Skype anymore. It used to work but no longer. It says "can't connect please try again later." Of course later never comes. CJB.

Rogue Voicemails from Smart Phone by CJB[_2_]
My somewhat older than average lady friend has just acquired a Doro 8030. She is having some problems with it - basically because it does more than just make phone calls like her old phone. BUT when she calls me and maybe if I don't answer or the connection breaks like when a train goes through a tunnel my phone suddenly switches to voicemail. In the past we have agreed not to leave voicemails...

Five phones with no coverage, and 3 too. by Roland Perry
Had an interesting (FSVO) local outage yesterday. Most of the afternoon. Virgin and EE coverage of five phones in the house flickering between zero bars and "emergency calls only". (Possibly the latter by roaming to another provider). Very surprised that our coverage comes exclusively from one mast. According to OpenSignal app there are numerous masts within a mile of our house, but maybe...

Feel at Home with '3' Data SIMs by Roger Mills[_2_]
I see that 7dayshop are offering a '3' 12GB (or 12 month) data SIM for 23.49, and are plugging the ability to use it in any of the 19 'Feel at Home' countries. Does anyone know whether this applies to earlier '3' data SIMs? I've got quite a stock of 1GB (30 day) SIMs which I bought when Currys were selling them for 3 each. Is there any reason why one of those may not work in my mobile...

Stopping Google Syncing to/from Android Phone by CJB[_2_]
At the weekend I was setting up a new Android phone. My phone only contacts - about 50 - were transferred from an old Nokia to the Android via a SIM card. Easy. Then I switched on wifi and connected to my Google / Gmail account. Damn it Google - the Gmail account then downloaded (sync'd) ALL of my Gmail contacts onto the phone - many 100s of them - all email addresses and many out-of-date - and...

Porting problem by Murmansk[_2_]
I'm in the process of porting my number from Life Mobile (who use the EE Network) to ID Mobile (who use the 3 network). The port should have completed 4 days ago but it has not done so. When I try to ring the number that I'm porting it says "number is not available" so its seems to have left Life Mobile. I've ported my number quite a few times over the years and in recent times it has always...

Calendar problem by Scott[_3_]
Several times recently the calendar on my Samsung Galaxy s5 mini has reverted to 1970. Resetting the phone always solves the problem. Any ideas where the problem might lie? Google, Internet, 4g, Samung or even operator error?

Five digit shortcode voice call by John Smith[_5_]
I've been asked to join a conference call using a five digit short code and a pin number. can this be called from a landline as well as a mobile? And is it billed at the normal rates say from national calls presuming the company (which asked for the call) is not charging a premium for this number?

O2 quickie divorce by Adrian Caspersz
Cancelling a device paid up phone contract today, O2 gave me a curious choice Either 1. give 30 days notice, or 2. convert phone number into "pay as you go", cancels the contract and leaves me with a sim card I can stuff in the bottom of my non-matching sock drawer.

Mayor and Costly Flaw in Android OS by CJB[_2_]
There is a major flaw with Android and the Doro 8030 implementation. AND ITS COST ME A FORTUNE - actually most of the initial topup of £10. When I bought the Doro 8030 it came with a compulsory £10 topup with O2. This could have been useful to use to 'learn' the phone before installing my original Giffgaff SIM card. However there is a major flaw / 'bug' in the Android OS. Perhaps this a...

Mobile tarrifs don't make sense by Mr Macaw
I pay 5 a month for 4 hours of calls, but if I go over 4 hours, they charge 40p a minute!? That's 5 for the first 4 hours, then 100 for the next 4 hours?!? So, I can change tarrif to 8 a month for 16 hours of calls, but it won't take effect until the next billing month? WTF? Are they doing this on purpose? I will be making an angry call to them when they open on Monday (Virgin Media).
