Strange SMS on Nokia C1 with GffGaff by CJB[_2_]
Please can someone tell me how it is possible to send a SMS text that appears directly on the screen replacing the wall paper and time etc.? There's a company that keeps pestering me with normal SMS messages and leaving voice mails - which I am ignoring. But there is always a record of the SMS texts in my Inbox and the voice-mails can be listened to on 443. Now today I received this other kind...

Loss of Freeview Channels with 4G Mobile by CJB[_2_]
Is this really an issue - that many (all?) Freeview Channels will suffer from severe interference with the new frequencies allocated to 4G mobile services? I hear that millions of Londoners will be especially affected if receiving Freeview from Crystal Palace transmitters / masts. This is crazy. I thought that analogue t.v. was switched off to provide frequencies for 4G, but it seems that...

OAP phone recommendations by Bob[_6_]
Can anyone recommend a deal for my elderly mother, whose average monthly usage amounts to around 30 minutes and 10-15 texts? She is anxious to go down the contract route, although I suspect she will end up paying more than PAYG, and she wants a relatively simple phone. She is unlikely to send/receive emails or go online. TIA

Better plan by Joe Kotroczo
Hello all, I can't seem to figure out how to choose a better plan for my needs. Maybe someone here could offer some advice? At the moment I'm on an old O2 contract, which has a 36/month plan. However, my bills are usually much higher. I've done a quick calculation over the last 6 months, the average is 63.69 with the lowest being 56.93 and the highest 78.91. Most of the cost beyond the...

GSM MAP/BER To MAP/XML Conversion by Holmespundit
GSM Administrators and Engineers... I am very pleased to announce that the Berasno Service now supports conversion of BER encoded data to an XML encoding. That is to say that you may now request a conversion from GSM MAP/BER to MAP/XML. If the BER data that you give to the Service actually contains GSM MAP and ITU TCAP information then that information can be used to construct a MAP- and...

Virgin mobile experiences on EE?.. by tony sayer
Having got fed up with Muppetfones abysmal customer services I'm seriously thinking of going elsewhere. Anyone had any experiences with Virgin mobile at all and do they have access to the combined Orange and T-Mobile network or is or only the one T Mobile I believe?.. Cheers.... -- Tony Sayer

Muppetfone.... by tony sayer
I've had a long standing problem with Voodofone which they seem incapable of sorting. However were we need it their network coverage is better then the others. I've just lost it with them. Does anyone know of a competent outfit that use their network where their customer service works properly at all?.. Cheers....

Vodafone - if you don't make enough calls then you'll get cut off by CJB[_2_]
Then Vodaphone will not only reallocate your no. to another customer, but you will also lose all credit on that no. Other mobile telcos have similar T&Cs. Frankly this is out right theft - but then the whole mobile industry is riddled with such scams and fraud. Anyway see: http://www.lovemoney.com/news/household-bills/mobile-phones/18212/vodafone-dont-make-enough-calls-cut-off So if you have a...

ppi spam reaches new low: machine calls to mobiles by [email protected]
I just received a phone call to my mobile. When I answered it, it was a computer voice saying something about ppi. Unwanted calls on landlines, and unwanted text is bad enough. But unwanted calls on mobiles are the worst. Is there no end to this ppi spam nonsense?

Vodafone mobile - what's happened? by Roland Perry
I've got a Vodafone USB Dongle and want to know how much credit it has. Using the My Account... Check Balance... "button" on the PC application used to trigger them to send me the balance (perhaps by SMS), but all it seems to do today is send me to a huge and unhelpful generic website. -- Roland Perry

EE Stores by Mark Carver
WTF's going on ? Last week I noticed the Orange store in our town, had been rebranded into an 'EE' store. The T Mobile store is all but next door (A Greggs pie shop separates the two). The TM store seemed to me, to be being run down. However, today I walk past, and the TM Store is also now a fully fledged EE store, identically shop fitted to the ex Orange store 15 feet away. Are they really...

keeping Orange number when changing to new contract - a few q's by danstar10
Hi, First let me say I have done some research and have not just posted out of laziness, but I am still unsure about a few things! I know I can transfer my number i want to keep (on an expired contract) to another network, then transfer that back to a new orange contract. My questions a I have seen some people say 02 simplicity is a good sim to transfer to as it can be cancelled after one...

3G IPv6 by Theo Markettos
Has anyone experienced any evidence of IPv6 connectivity on a mainstream 3G (or 4G) network (UK or otherwise)? I know there's specialist outfits like Andrews and Arnold, but I'm wondering about the big carriers. From what I read on Google it does seem like they're starting to appear, but wondered if anyone had any experiences? Theo

Android - privacy - alternate OS by Iain[_3_]
I am very new to the android scene - only a few weeks; and trying out different apps and flashing upgrades onto it. Yesterday, YouTube wanted to update, and I was looking through all the permissions it was seeking - all of them, not just the new ones. (I have copied all of the permissions at the bottom) The app now wants to start running at bootup, and be able to take pictures and videos...

Ripoff O2 raises non-EU charges astronomically .... by CJB[_2_]
6 per MB for data !!!!!!!!! And Giffgaff / Tesco will follow. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/bills/article-2226168/O2-roaming-charges-mobile-network-doubles-text-prices-outside-EU.html Thought Giffgaff was an ultimate ripoff. We were in Bangkok recently and I turned my phone on for texting. But then received two short calls from the UK which I cut short. My balance in the UK was...

In article , R D S wrote: Is anyone aware of a reasonably priced PAYG sim deal where the data isn't time limited? No such beast, as far as I'm aware. CPW hating the Nexus4 price? by Andy Burns[_8_]
http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/buy/LG_NEXUS_4_ZA4FY_FCONO 24 month 1GB contract @ 36/month = 864 for a "free" phone that costs 279 SIM-free, the 585 difference would pay for 47 months of my current 1GB SIM-only deal. Taking the ****, or what?

Voltage variations damage? by jim stone[_2_]
Have just received by post a 'Fone Storm' car charger for a Huawei Ascend g300 phone. I wanted to check the specs to see if I had been sent the right one for this phone. On the box it says input DC 12v-24v. Output DC 4.2v - 10v. 500ma, max 750ma. I always understood that tiny components could be damaged by even fairly minor variations in voltage, so am surprised that the output can be...

Skype on T-Mobile PAYG by strassenbaum[_3_]
New to mobile broadband I want to fix up an old lady in hospital with (better) Skype. My phone picks up a 3G T-mobile signal in her room (and no '3' signal even though they can just about Skype with that.) Is there any way I can use Skype on T-mobile PAYG? T-mobile said I could but now that I've paid my money and found it doesn't work, they tell me that of course it won't work - not unless I...
