I've ported a number into 321 only to discover dire indoor coverage from
Three - not far from my local masts. Previously it used to work, but it
seems Orange 2G fallback has been turned off. I thought this happened only
in well-served places (central London etc) but it seems to apply to most of
England now. I had similar problems on the Suffolk coast not far from
Southwold (a popular seaside destination).

If you look at Three's map and ignore 'outdoor only' areas, coverage is very
thin now.

But this appears to be a long-term problem rather than anything recent. Is
there a service update page so we can check which masts are having trouble

Sorry to hear about your woes with the signal. I don't believe my
issues are signal related at all, but more to do with the
assignment of IP addresses when connecting DHCP, if that's what
they call it... It will connect and I get the 'H' displayed on
the screen, but there is no IP address issued. I was wondering of
there was any issues ongoing?

Lucky I get a very reasonable -68dBm indoors here, from two
separate masts.

Still not much use though, unless I can get online, as I only use
the phone for data, and do little else with it.

Of course it might be my phone, as I don't have another to compare
it with.

Its rather irritating finding you have no data connection much of
the time.....


FWIW had a problem that sounds similar. Lots of signal but no data
connection, but it was localised. Tried 2 sims and 2 dongles at the
place with no connection, no combination worked. At home with very low
signal strength all combinations would connect.

Reported on the 3 website, which was ignored. Eventually, at the end
of a 47 minute phone call, they agreed that there may be a system
fault and would escalate it to "level 2". When I managed to talk to
them the next day they said that some maintenance had been done on one
of the local transmitters and they would look at it again. It's
working now so they must have fixed it.

The moral is that they can have localised data connection issues so
it's probably worth trying to report it, but you'll need good evidence
and a lot of patience to get through 3's "customer service".
